model Robocop 2 – Ultimate Robocain

I stumbled across this incredible 3D model of Robocain years ago:

It was the first thing I printed on my first resin 3D printer – well parts at least.

I never got around printing the complete kit, as with a lot of modellers, I got distracted 😀

However, when the company moderoid released a plastic injection kit of robocain, I bought and built it and had a lot of fun: https://prop-doc.de/robocop-ii-model-robocain/

Even this little figure, scaled at 1:12 had so much detail, that I wanted to build it again – bigger this time.

Unfortunately, I developed an allergy with UV Resin.

But 1/6 is too small for an fdm printer, so I decided to print him in 1/3.

Man, I wasn’t really aware how big that would be in the end.

About 95% was printed on my Bambu X1C in ABS. Some very small or detailed parts like the hinges for the helmet or the transformer for the welding tool or the ammo belt were printed in Resin by Nico.

Apropos: a few pieces where redesigned: Marcus Heinemann did a new ammo belt, which was already “bent”, Nico made a new transformer and I made a few pieces myself, like the hinges, cable adapter, light housings etc.

After printing, I sanded all the pieces, my wife shot them with primer and I sanded them again with finer grit.

Be aware, these were more than 250 individual pieces, so it was not a walk in the park.

Simone also applied the final paint coat after sanding (and after I prepped the armor parts with some structure spray).

For the monitor head, I used an electronic greeting card.

I was frequently visiting the hardware store, because I constantly ran out of nuts and bolts.

Luckily a friend gave me the files for the decals from the Chronicle edition of Robocain.

I rescaled them and had them printed professionally as water slide decals.

I had to change the support rods two times because of the weight (which I slightly underestimated ;)).

This was really a lot of fun to do and I am proud of the outcome.

However, I still need to weather the hell out of him, but I really need to be in the mood for that 😀

I hope you enjoy the pictures.
