After seeing one of the most underrated movies ever, Bicentennial Man, I really admired the design and the craftsmanship of the props and costumes.
After quite some time, I managed to locate the Galatea Flight Attendant costume.
It needed some love, the face made of hot melt had some rips, the animatronics did not work, the foam body inside was sagging and it was dirty from storage. A few small parts were also missing.
My wife cleaned her thoroughly and built a better rig to support the weight.
I created the small missing parts and painted them to match the original and brought the animatronic back to life.
This is the hero #1 Galatea costume worn by actress Kiersten Warren. You may notice, that a blue Galatea was never seen in the movie.
The original costume hard parts were all clear vaccuformed plastic, that was painted from the inside (like RC car bodies) to avoid scratching of the paint.
At one point there was a scene planned with a Galatea flight attendant version in blue, which never made it to the final cut of the movie. Instead of building another costume, Steve Johnson’s XFX decided to reuse one of the original sand metallic costumes.
This time they painted the outside of the costume in light metallic blue and made only a new hot melt face.
The markings and the original color are still inside of the vaccu shells.
